Abstract

A leader's speech is certainly well prepared and goal-oriented. President Joko Widodo performs his first speech entitled “Visi Indonesia” to Indonesian people to end the separation political interest during election and reunite as Indonesian whatever the socio-cultural background from. The speech demands people to rebuild togetherness to build better Indonesia in the future. He expresses what will be done in the next five years,. At the beginning of his speech, Jokowi alludes to the fast-paced world changes which must be addressed appropriately by the government and the people of Indonesia. While at the end, he talks about diversity, democracy, and the progress of the nation with all its supporting elements. This thesis analyze the speech based on metafunction theory. That bring this thesis on entitle “An analysis of Metafunction in President Joko Widodo speech Visi Indonesia” The theory is based on systemic functional linguistic approach derived by Halliday, especially language metafunction. This research uses descriptive qualitative method. Furthermore, the research data is taken from President Joko Widodo speech text entitled “Visi Indonesia” in the internet. The data are analyzed by data analysis method by Spreadly. The result of the research shows that there are 88 clauses in the speech. The interpersonal metafunction are declarative with 79 number and imperative with 9 number. It indicates that the speaker tries to deliver information to the audiences and persuade the audiences. The textual metafunction are: 63 topical theme, which devided into 34 number of unmarked topical theme, this kind of theme indicate that the text shows equality and the speaker signals typical. While the other topical theme is signaling atypical of unusual 29 number of marked topical theme; other themes are textual theme with 4 number; interpersonal theme with 2 number and 19 number of multiple themes. The ideational metafunction is relational process with number 28 and followed by 24 number of material processes, 20 number of mental processes, 9 number of behavioral processes, and 7 number of existential processes. The relational process indicates that the speaker wants to give description or image relate to the his idea to the audience.
