Abstract

The purpose of this study is to know and analyze what the type of Deixis are used and what the Dominant types of Deixis are used in the speech Never, Ever, Give Up by Donald Trump. The researcher selects speech Never, Ever, Give Up by Donald Trump as the subject of analysis because the popularity and get good respons from many people with having 1 million viewers in Youtube channel. The theory on Deixis analysis in this study based on Levinsons. The types this study is Qualitative research with Pragmatics approach. The data source is the speech transcripts from speech Never, Ever, Give Up by Donald Trump, and the data which is used speech by Donald Trump and then classified into the types of Deixis based on their own criteria. The data analysis method in this study using the agih method from Sudaryanto. The results showing that this study found the five types Deixis, they are Person Deixis, Time Deixis, Place Deixis, Social Deixis and Discourse Deixis in speech Never, Ever, Give Up by Donald Trump. The used of Person Deixis to indicate participants in the speech, Place Deixis indicates the place or location, Time Deixis indicates relative time even which is used in the speech, Social Deixis indicates the social status of all participants in the speech and the last is Discourse Deixis indicates discourse that contains the utterance in the speech as a signal and its relation to surrounding text. Person Deixis is used 447 times, Time Deixis is 71 times, Place Deixis is 137 times, Social Deixis is used 189 times and Discourse Deixis 109 times. The dominant types used by Donald Trump in this speech are Person Deixis especially the use of the word Deixis "You" in Second Person Deixis with the highest frequency of 129 times, Deixis word “I” of 71 times in First Person Deixis and Deixis word ”It” of 51 times in Third Person Deixis. The type of Deixis that has the lowest usage in the speech Never, Ever, Give Up by Donald Trump is Deixis Time where the total frequency is only 71 times.
