Abstract
Psychological strategies by which persons reduce and avoid negative state such as anxiety is called Defense mechanism. In Precious movie, it serves social and psychological events that are faced by the character that resemble the reality in American’s society and those are interesting to reveal from the movie. The movie has many psychological problem that appear in daily life of the character such as anxiety. The methodology which used is qualitative reasearch. The writter used library research to support the complete data, information, and materials of this thesis which are collected from several books, dictionaries, and internet. Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalysis theory is choosed for known the concept of defense mechanism. The purpose of analyzing the defense mechanism from this thesis are to get better to understanding about defense mechanism and types of defense mechanism are, how defense mechanism is used by the main character and what effects of defense mechanism done by the main character is. Furthermore, this thesis hopefully can give contribution to the students and people in general who want to learning about defense mechanism, and they can apply the use of defense mechanism in the right way in dealing with anxiety in daily life. Therefore, defense mechanism can save their mind not to be stressful and depressed.
