Abstract

Surah Ar-Rahman is a surah that relegated in Mecca, consist of 78 verses. This surah is tell the blessing of Allah upon all of his creation and allusions to humans and jinn. It also reminds to the humanity to be more grateful for the blessing of Allah SWT besause the human and jinn do not want to be grateful for the blessings that Allah given. In this research, Surah Ar-Rahman is analyzed based on Semantic study that focuses on Illocution, especially in Directive utterance, Representative utterance and Expressive utterance. Semantic is one of the branches of linguistics studying about the meaning and it is considered as a major branch of linguistics devoted to the study of meaning in language. The point is that Semantic sees language based on the literal meaning of the language. This research aims (1) To find kinds of Illocution on the English Translation of Surah Ar-Rahman by Abdullah Yusuf Ali and (2) To find messages are involved in the English Translation of Surah Ar-Rahman by Abdullah Yusuf Ali. This research uses the Descriptive Qualitative methods which the aims to describe kinds of Illocution on the English Translation of Surah Ar-Rahman by Abdullah Yusuf Ali and messages are involved in the English Translation of Surah Ar-Rahman by Abdullah Yusuf Ali. Therefore, the instrument is used to obtain data is observation. After the data are collected, the data are analyzed by Spardley technique. Spardley technique are used in this research are Domain and Taxonomy. The result of the research shows that there are seventy nine (79) data on the English Translation of Surah Ar-Rahman by Abdullah Yusuf Ali. There are some kinds of Illocution on the English Translation of Surah Ar-Rahman by Abdullah Yusuf Ali. Firstly, Directive utterances are found thirty three (31) data. Secondly, Representative utterances are found fourty four (44) data. The last, Expressive utterance are found two (2) data in the English Translation of Surah Ar-Rahman. Then, the messages are involved in the research are the first message is we have to be more grateful for the blessing of Allah given. The second message is we have to believe that there is another life in the hereafter, like the Heaven and the Hell. The third message is we have to take motivation from this surah so that we are more enthusiastic to praying. The last, we have to keep all of the blessing of Allah given.
