Abstract

The research focuses on how to represent the Nationalism Value in the DiBalik 98 Film. This research is interesting because nationalism is an issue that is often discussed, especially in Indonesia. The things reviewed are always about the shift in the meaning of nationalism from time to time. The shift in nationalism is interpreted by the presence of signs or ymbols that appear in the Dibalik 98 Film. The study aims to determine the representation of the meaning of nationalism values in the Dibalik 98 Film and to find out the signs, objects, and interpretations of the Nationalism Values shown in the Dibalik 98 Film. . The theory on semiotic analysis is based on Charles Sanders Pierce such as sign, object, and interpretant, the theory about the concept of representation meaning. This research was qualitative and descriptive with analysis all gesture, facial expression, and costume, which described representation in this film. The concept in this study divided into three concepts they are: the theory of semiotic, second is the concept of representation, and the last is the concept of film semiotic. The study uses the qualitative method which the aim is to researched semiotic analysis in Nationalism Value. Therefore, the instrument are used to obtain the data observation. After the data are collected, the following steps are done, those are: (1) Research Design; (2) Data Source; (3) Data Collection; and (4) Data Analysis Method. The result of this study shows that Nationalism Value in this film is describe that have four types of representation. Representation of the Student Demonstrations as Willingness to Sacrifice for the Nation, representation of Student Long March and Carriying Indonesian Flag, representation of Nationalism Value as a Unifier of the Nation, and representation of Nationalism Value as a Symbol of Pancasila.
