Abstract

The traditional wedding in Tengger is one of the cultural traditions that are still preserved by the Tengger tribes, East Java. At the tengger tribe wedding ceremony, traditional shamans have an important role, especially when delivering pitutur to the bride and groom. Pitutur Dukun Pandhita in Wiwaha Samskara aims to teach marriage advice that acts as a guide through advice that directs couples to have a healthier, harmonious and long-lasting household. The pitutur Dukun Pandhita is not just a giving advice but as a spiritual symbolism that is passed down from generation to generation for the tengger people. Directive are an act of illocutionary speech acts that is used to make the listener do something in the future. The relevant study is pragmatic. This study aims to analysis types of directive speech acts used by shaman’s utterance in Wiwaha samskara in tengger tribes. this research focus to describe the types of directive speech acts used by the Pitutur Dukun Pandhita in Wiwaha Samskara in Tengger tribes, using theory speech acts by John R Searle. The main this theory more emphasis on the five classifications. The five classifications of illocutionary speech acts namely assertive, directive, commissive, expressive, and declarative. The study uses a descriptive qualitative method. The utterances by Pitutur Dukun Pandhita is the data of the research. The data source is recording of utterance by Pitutur Dukun Pandhita in Wiwaha Samskara in Tengger Tribes. The data collection method used in this research are observation based on natural language phenomena, and validate the analysis by re-examining the data and ensuring the data is relevant by hearing recording. The data analysis description method uses informal method. The result of 40 data includes 5 data on asking acts, 5 data on begging acts, 9 data on commanding acts, 20 data on advising acts and 1 data on prohibition act. Based on the amount of data, the dominant data was analyzed is advising acts. Based on the results of data analysis, it can be concluded that there are five types of directive speech acts used by Pitutur Dukun Pandhita in Wiwaha Samskara in Tengger Tribes. This research aims to show the existence of directive speech acts of asking, begging, commanding, advising, and prohibition of pitutur Dukun Pandhita
